Most people have fears. Usually people take this emotion seriously, sometimes even too seriously. There are a lot of books, researches that try to analyze the nature of fear. Fears seem natural to us, however, the strange thing is, that we tend to experience fears in such moments, when there is no direct threat to life/stimuli. Some might claim that it is happening, because human being is a complex creature, with a highly developed mental apparatus, so it is just normal/natural. I will just reply – no, it is not normal at all (no es buenoJ).
The enormous amount of fears exists in us only due to the large amount of other mental material. Naturally, fears originate from different teachings, past experiences, beliefs, complexes etc. They are, in most cases, illusionary, empty, and we are the only ones, who make them real. Let’s take a look at a brief example (MB practitioners can use those aspects for processing, of course personalizing those by adding own thoughts and aspects):
A girl walks down the dark street. It’s not that late, but still, she is worried. She sees criminal “elements” in everyone, who passes her by. Let’s analyze, why she could possibly experience those worries and fears:
She got robbed or assaulted in a dark street in the past (the most obvious explanation, but it’s not always the case)
She saw movies, where someone was robbed or assaulted in a dark street (in most cases, someone’s experience, observed from the other side, is the best “teacher”)
She was taught by her parents or friends to avoid dark streets or she was told some stories, when someone was robbed or assaulted.
Darkness is associated with danger or something evil in her mind (some might say “hello” to religion here).
Some other aspects that can support this fear of dark streets:
Belief, that women are weak and/or defenseless.
Belief, that there are a lot of bad people in the world.
Perceived statistics of assaults and crimes.
The aspects above have one common feature – in most cases they have no relation to the reality. Illusionary fears take control over us very-very often; fear of “dark streets” is just a small example.
Fears make us behave irrationally and suppress our adequate analysis of the situation. They also suppress our abilities, so we never experience life in its fullness.
However, there is a way to eliminate those. What people like most about MB, is that fears are the first ones to disappear. Believe me, it is much harder to eliminate some deep and old negative character trait (usually it still “goes away”, you will just need a little more time), than eliminating fears. In return, you learn to perceive situations as they are, without unnecessary negative reactions. This does not mean, that you will be able to “jump of the roof” or that you will not run from criminals in case of real danger, self-defensive mechanism cannot be eliminated, but stupid, irrational, illusionary and suppressive fears can, with ease. It all depends on what you want to have or not to in your lifeJ.
