Results of practice
In “Jumping down the Rabbit Hole (Mind Clearance)”, I’ve described the changes that are coming throughout the practice of MB technique. However, it is hard to define any stages or rigid steps you are going to pass during your practice. I don’t want to predict at what point what skills you are going to get though the practice. Each of us is very individual and has a different structure of the mentality. Still, there is one rule that works for everyone, that will help you avoid confusing incidents.
The main thing you should consider is a systematic and smooth approach in practicing MB technique. There will be sudden breakthroughs and short periods of “silence”. Some of the problems will disappear right away; some will need more time and several approaches to be processed. Results will be coming with different intervals, but by using systematic approach all problems or pieces of mental material eventually will vanish. As I pointed out earlier in this book, our mental material is completely interconnected, that is why you need to concentrate on a gradual shift, not on “an instant jump into nowhere”.
In addition, when people start practicing, they get into the state of “all-transforming” condition; that is why in the beginning of the practice it is hard to judge about some concrete steps and shifts. By this, I mean that if you stop practicing for some time, you will notice that things have changed a lot and that you perceive the world differently from now on. However, using MB every day, you get into the transformational storm, when due to extremely high speeds of work it is hard to judge yourself and your new image fairly. However, the constant flow of interesting and useful insights will be present. Later on, this storm will calm down and you will see the real picture of what have happened and of what is happening at the moment. Still, if you want to have a precise picture of your changes (transformation) during the early steps of practice, you could start keeping the “diary” of changes and feelings you are getting every day in order to compare your accomplishments during different periods of practice. However, with your advancement, you won’t need any confirmations of changes, everything will become clear, because “the big picture is made of small details”
If something doesn’t work out, if some problems are not being solved, if you feel that mental material is still present and is still disruptive, don’t rush into conclusions and labeling – that “this technique doesn’t work, and that you have to find something else”. Failure to process something is the sign of that the problem is much deeper and is interconnected on many levels. Try to work on it, calmly. You have to find and analyze all the “roots and branches” and divide them into even smaller pieces (usually person will dig as far as childhood negative experiences, lack of love etc.). You have to keep in mind the “resistance” of our ego as well. I would like to reassure you, it is natural to perform such process (transformation) and face challenges on the way. Of course, there is always a place “on the other side of the road”, where people put masks and suppress their problems and imagine that they feel free, refreshed and blessed. Everyone comes to the point, when passed hardships, will be worth it.
To make a long story short, don’t worry; just work on yourself with no doubts. Perception improves with every step you make towards its clarity, by processing mental material. When you will get “there”, all the questions and worries cease to exist and the world around is changed.
